Obituary of Georgine Dunlap

Georgine “Bunny” Dunlap 82 passed away peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord April 8, 2022.

Born to George and Wilma Fear December 6, 1939, in Fairmont West Virginia.  Bunny was the second of three daughters.  She grew up in Fairmont and graduated with honors from Fairmont High School. Her father owned the local Hardware store.  The family spent their summers at Deep Creek a few hours drive from Fairmont.   She attended the University of West Virginia and graduated with a degree in Education.  She also attended Arizona State University for a semester and played on the golf team.  Upon graduation she married William Dunlap in 1960 and they embarked on a life together.  They had two children Scott and Page Dunlap.

Bunny and Bill moved to Sarasota in 1969.   Bunny became the Physical Education teacher at Venice Elementary and later Gocio Elementary.  She loved teaching and made an impact on all who were lucky enough to have her as their teacher.  They raised their children in Sarasota, and she never missed either of their children’s baseball, basketball, football, tennis, or golf matches.  Bunny walked along side every round of golf her children played and always kept score on her own scorecard. She was the best driver, score keeper, and travel agent, and all-around chaperone.

She and Bill built a home and a life at Misty Creek golf club where they enjoyed years of golf and friends.  She loved golf.  She was the Misty Creek club champion, she served as the ladies’ golf association President and Sarasota Mid Golf President.  Bunny and Bill were very instrumental in creating and running the Sarasota Junior Golf Association.  Bunny was the President of SJGA for years and was responsible for the organizations’ immense growth.  She was a master bridge player and loved the camaraderie she enjoyed with her many friends playing bridge. She was the best crossword worker who ever lived and had a mastery of the English language. 

She is survived by her husband Bill, her children Scott Dunlap, Page Dunlap Halpin, her son in law Tom Halpin and (the apple of her eye) her grandson Drew Halpin.  She is preceded in death by her mother Wilma, her father George and her two sisters Nancy and Susan.

A Celebration of Life will be held a Misty Creek on May 21, 2022 from 1pm to 3pm.
