Obituary of Geraldine Throckmorton DeJarnett

Geraldine Throckmorton DeJarnett, age 94, of Venice, Florida, passed away peacefully Sunday night, March 14, 2022. She was born on June 7,1927, in Sparta, Ohio, to the late Verner and Hallie (Van Sickle) Throckmorton. Jerry grew up in the Depression Era, the youngest of six children on a farm. She walked two miles with her youngest brother to school each day and stopped at the home of her oldest brother, Kenneth and Genevieve Throckmorton, for breakfast and hot chocolate each morning. Her father died shortly after she began college at The Ohio State University and she worked her way through college to graduate in 1950 as a Home Economist.

Jerry began her career as a Home Economics teacher for twelve years at Milan High School and then worked for Ohio Edison as a professional Home Economist. She loved this job where she demonstrated how to use a washer and a dryer and eventually the dishwasher. Her uniform was always a dress suit and high heels. Jerry traveled many places and to several countries in this period in her life with several good friends including her dear friend, Hilda Anuskiewicz.

Jerry met and married her beloved husband, Jean DeJarnett, on October 29, 1966 in Norwalk, Ohio. They lived in Port Clinton, Ohio for 22 years, close to Lake Erie and their favorite past-time was their sailboat, the Blue Jay, and the Port Clinton Yacht Club. Jerry loved to research the Throckmorton lineage and made beautiful books and charts for the families of the Throckmorton families. She enjoyed the following hobbies: family, travel, sailing, reading, genealogy, and computers. She was active in the Professional Home Economist in Business, Genealogy Association and the Port Clinton Yacht Club.

Jerry and Jean moved to Venice, Florida, in 1988 and made their home at the Jacaranda Country Circle. Truly, a circle, Jerry loved the people in her circle and the parties they enjoyed together. She walked a mile each day around the circle in the morning and a second mile later in the day until seven months before her death. She was involved in the Jacaranda Golf and Country Club, attended the Grace United Methodist Church, and the American Association of University Women.

Jerry will always be remembered for her passion for her family and friends. She continually reached out to so many family members, from the first generation to the third generation, always interested in what people were doing and being a cheerleader for all. She was blessed with extraordinary wonderful friends who loved and supported her to the end. The family will be forever grateful to friends who wrapped around her and supported her at Aston Gardens as well as Inglenook, her last residency before her death.

Jerry will be dearly missed by all her family in Ohio, niece Sharon (Dennis) Shipman, great-niece Kathi (Dan) Gorbett, niece Ann (Keith) Wiant and her many nieces and nephews throughout the states. Her step-children,  Patricia (Thomas) Carden, (Marietta, GA) , Cathy (Nick) DeJarnett Gibbons (FL), Roy DeJarnett (MD). Her Grandsons, Tony (Kendra) Ondrus, Scott (Becky) Borders, Tristan (Jaime) Gibbons and Great-granddaughter, Kimberly. And numerous other family members who impacted her life.

Jerry was proceeded in death by her parents and all other brothers and sisters: Kenneth (Genevieve) Throckmorton, Marjorie ((Ralph) Lemon, Francis (Mary Jane) Throckmorton, Verner Throckmorton, Jr., Carroll (Jane) Throckmorton, and twins Morris and Maurice, who died in infancy. Husband Jean DeJarnett. Special nieces and nephews, Shirley Barnett, Louise Trotter, Edwin Throckmorton, Keith Thockmorton, Kenny Throckmorton and Don Throckmorton.

Jerry’s last request was to host a party in her memory with happy stories being told about her and her joy of life. This Celebration of Life will be held in Sparta, Ohio at a later date this summer. Memorial contributions may be sent to TideWell Hospice, Inc. 5955 Rand Blvd, Sarasota, Florida 34238. Condolences may be sent to www.farleyfuneralhome.com
