Obituary of Anthony Cherwa

Anthony Cherwa, 81, of Venice, FL; died on March 12, 2006 at the Venice Regional Medical Center. He was born on August 13, 1924 in Hinsdale, NH. He wintered in Venice, while living in Mystic, CT since 1984 and became a permanent Florida resident in 1994. While living in Mystic, CT, he worked for the U.S. Navy serving in the Mine-Sweepers Amphibious Force and later in submarine service for 23 years until his retirement in 1966. He was a member of Epiphany Cathedral. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus # 7052, VFW in Hinsdale, NH and a member of the Fleet Reserve in Groton, CT. He is survived by his wife, Mary Joan Cherwa (nee Pelkey) of Venice, FL: son, Stephen Cherwa of Poway, CA; brother, Frank Cherwa of Turners Falls, MA; sister, Shirley DeTour of Granby, MA and 7 grandchildren. A Service of Remembrance will be scheduled at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in his name to TideWell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5055 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
