Obituary of Joseph J. Friel

Joseph J. Friel, 64 of Nokomis, Florida passed away February 5, 2007. Joseph was born on January 28, 1943 in Chester, Pennsylvania. He moved to Nokomis in 1978 from Chester. Joseph retired from the Sarasota County Sheriffs Department as a Lieutenant after 25 years of service. He was a member the United States Army’s 101st Airborne from in 1960 to 1963, he served on the Chester, Pennsylvania Police force from 1967 to 1978, he was a graduate of the Widener University in Chester in 1975, was a graduate of the FBI Academy in 1996, was and avid golfer and a member of Calusa Lake’s, and a member of Epiphany Cathedral in Venice. He is survived by his wife Ann, daughter, Karen Howard of Parkland, Florida, son, Daniel Friel of Crossville, Tennessee, his mother Gertrude Friel of Cape May Courthouse, New Jersey, and five grandchildren. A Visitation will be held for Joseph on Saturday, February 10, 2007 from 8:30 to 9:30 am at the Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel with a Mass of Christian burial being held at 10:00 am at Epiphany Cathedral. A burial will be held on Monday, February 12, 2007 at 11:00 am at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O.
