Obituary of Lauretta K. Blixt

Lauretta Blixt, age 94, passed away on Monday, March 12th in Venice, Florida. Lauretta Katherine Beyel was born to John Philip Beyel and Carrie Miller Beyel in West Leyden, NY on April 22, 1912. She grew up on a farm in the area, attended the village school, graduated from West Leyden Central School. After attending Boonville Training Class she taught in the rural schools in Lewis County. On July 22, 1933 she was married to Kurt C. Blixt in the Reformed Church in West Leyden, NY. After raising her family she returned to college and earned her B.S. in Education from SUNY Cortland, NY. She substituted in the Morrisville-Eaton Central School system and then taught fifth grade there for fifteen years. She had lived with her family in New Hartford, DeRuyter, Morrisville, NY, spent many winters in Crescent City, FL before moving permanently to Venice, FL. She had two children, Karl K. Blixt and his wife, Florence of Cortland, NY and Kristine A. Glaisek and her husband, Paul of Nyack, NY and of Englewood, FL. She had five grandchildren, Barry Blixt and his wife, Mindy of Chandler, AZ, Susan Appleby and her husband, Robert of New York, NY, Bridget Blixt of Phoenix, AZ, Jennifer Glaisek of New York, NY, Paul Glaisek III and his wife Stephanie of Highland Falls, NY; five great-grandchildren, Samuel, Nathan and Michael Appleby and Hailey and Shelby Blixt. She was preceded in death by her husband Kurt C. Blixt. She had two surviving brothers, Aaron and Charles Beyel both of West Leyden, NY; brother -in-law and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. H. Iva Blixt of Venice, FL; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Morrisville Community Church, had been a Sunday School teacher, a coordinator of Vacation Bible Schools, a member of the women’s organization. She had been a Girl Scout leader. She was a longtime member of the Morrisville Wednesday Club, becoming an honorary member. She became an affiliate member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Venice, FL, participating in the church’s activities. A memorial service will be 2PM on Wednesday, March 14th at the Trinity Presbyterian Church.
