Joseph P. Christian, Lt., Retired NYSP Born May 26, 1927 – Died November 26, 2007 Survived by his beloved wife Kay Christian and her five loving children, three surviving adoring stepchildren: Deborah Christian, Amy Ouhl, Gregory McNeil, and preceded in death by Randolph McNeil and Laurie Jones; surviving 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Ralph Christian and half-brother Nick Samaras and four children from a previous marriage: Joseph, Gary, Doreen, and Anthony. Served as a Marine during WWII. Career member of the New York State Police, serving from June 1, 1948 in troops K, C and Division until medically retired on September 4, 1974 from severe injuries previously received while heroically, selflessly leading troops into the retake of the Attica Prison during rioting, saving many hostages lives. Served in Governor’s personal security force, as well as Troop K senior Firearms Instructor, Station Commander in Zone II of Troop K in Fishkill, New York. Expert early on for the use of police radar and served as an expert police witness in the courts. Staff member of the State Police Academy for police firearms training programs. Many commendations for outstanding performance. Well respected, much loved, and sorely missed. He was also a member of; American Association of Retired Troopers, American Legion, Association of Former NY State Troopers, Florida Association of Retired Troopers/NYSP, RPA-NY, and The Retired Troopers Association.
